Eliot Spitzer - Next Time Phone Home

Eliot Spitzer, the Governor of New York, has been caught doing business with a high-priced prostitute ring. It's not surprising to me that this began as an inquiry by the IRS.  What is surprising is that Spitzer allowed himself to become what he had so vehemently opposed. Spitzer must have been out of his mind to get caught up in something like this. His reputation is based on being a crusader against ethically challenged people and businesses.  Sometimes people get so full of themselves that they become detached from reality.  Maybe this is what happened to Spitzer.  Maybe he just lost his damn mind and did not think he would be caught. 

Regardless of what Spitzer's mindset was, I do not have any sympathy for him.  I do feel sorry for his wife, children and members of his staff who I'm sure are starting to clean up their resumes.  You can now add Mrs.Spitzer to the long list of women who are cheated on by their spouses only to be marched up to a podium where they have to stand and listen to the public airing of their private lives.  One time I would like for a wife to tell her husband and his political advisor's that she will not be participating in the obligatory press conference and photo-op.  If asked why, she could say that she's got a scheduled meeting with her attorney.

I have never understood why the wives of men who cheat feel they have to go on television and support these idiots.  It is the husband's lack of support and respect for her that have put them in this situation in the first place.  Would the husband be there for her if the shoe was on the other foot?  I don't think so.
