He Finally Gets The Message

Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann finally resigned from his position.  Dann had been under pressure to resign from most members of the Ohio Democratic power structure since he admitted to having an extramarital affair with an employee.  There have also been charges of sexual harassment from other employees in his office.

At least disgraced politicians like former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer and Dann have the decency to resign their positions of power instead of hanging on like the petulant flop Mayor of Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick.  I will celebrate the day he is kicked out of the mayor's mansion and I don't even live in Detroit.

Most Politicians Are Arrogant

Ron Fournier wrote an article in which he states his belief that Barack Obama was on the border line of being arrogant. He then lists some comments Obama made that probably have been taken out of context and maybe too seriously.  If I heard the comments in person, I probably would have laughed.

What if Obama is arrogant?  So what - give me a break.  You can count the politicians who are not arrogant on one hand.  An individual has to be a little arrogant when they believe they should be the one chosen to lead a city, state, or nation.  The politician's that get into trouble are the one's who are too arrogant and cannot handle the power of the elected position.  Their arrogance blinds them into thinking that they can do whatever they want because the rules do not apply to them.  For example, look at the disgraced fall of the former Governor of New York, Eliot Spitzer and the knucklehead mayor of Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick.  Both of them thought they were indestructible and they both abused the powers that the people gave them.

Hey Kwame - Learn From Eliot And Resign

Kwame1 I'm glad to see that Eliot Spitzer resigned from his position as Governor of New York because of his involvement with a prostitution ring.  This is the honorable and intelligent move to make.  I'm sure Spitzer's decision was also made easier by the fact that he basically had no support from anyone in the state Democratic Party.

I only wish the selfish, dishonorable, race-baiting Detroit mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick would do what Spitzer did.  Kilpatrick is staying in office because he is a very selfish man who cares more about himself than the city of Detroit.  On the other hand, I should not be surprised he has not resigned.  Resigning his position would be the intelligent move - Kilpatrick has shown repeatedly that he is a stupid man who feels that he is entitled to be the mayor.

I remember the days when a public official would resign almost immediately if they were ever caught in an illegal, immoral or unethical scandal of any kind.  They would not wait around for the latest local newspaper poll to gage for them the publics feelings on their behavior.  I think the attitudes of some public officials changed after President Bill Clinton stayed in office after the Monica Lewinsky scandal.  I think some officials now think, "hey, if Clinton can stay in Oval Office, I should be able to stay on as the mayor".

Well, I disagree.  I believe public officials should be held to a higher standard of accountability because of their position.  If the public official betrays the trust of the citizens that voted them in office, they should resign immediately.  Clinton should have resigned, but he didn't.  Spitzer should have resigned and he did.  Kilpatrick should resign, but he will not because he is unintelligent.
