A Tax Break Is Not Going To Help These People

Every four years, the American public is treated to the spectacle of seeing politicians promising tax breaks for various groups of citizens.  These tax breaks are supposed to put money into the pockets of the people who really need it. Well, I have a better idea. Instead of giving these people tax breaks, how about offering them all a year of free mental heath counseling. This would go a long way into helping some people face reality about why they are in the position they are in.

Case in point - have you seen the people who participate on Maury and the Jerry Springer show?  What kind of woman goes onto national television to tell the world that she has 8 kids and she has no idea who the father is?  Do you think she needs counseling or a few extra hundred dollars?  How about the married man who declares his undying love for his wife only to admit that he has cheated on her over 10 times?  Does he need counseling?  I'm more in favor of putting him out of his misery.

These people are idiots who are selfish and do not care about making a fool out of themselves in front of the whole world. And for what - a free trip to New York?  I've been to the "The Big Apple" and it's not worth it.

Give these people counseling so they can get their lives together. Maybe then Jerry Springer and Maury Povich can rediscover their real talents and stop selling out to make the big dollars.

My Opinion On This Past Political Season

I am so glad that this political campaign season is finally over. I can't speak for everyone else nor do I pretend to, but I have been very disappointed the events of the last 2 years.  The candidates (Obama, Clinton, McCain, Biden, Romney, etc.) consistently displayed the ability to lie to the American public.  For once, I would like a politician to say, "You know what - there is nothing the government can do about this problem."  I would vote for that candidate in a minute.  Unfortunately, that person would not have a chance to win because the majority of the citizens in this country are intellectually lazy. They only read snippets of questionable information and listen to 30 second sound bytes that play loose with the truth.  There are very few citizens who challenge the politicians and the mainstream media who print their words and actions.

Now that the presidential elections are over the lies and misleading statements can desist for a while. Maybe Obama will think of a way to be really honest with the American public about the "change" he will be able to implement.  On the other hand, McCain can be well - McCain again.  The man who really is a maverick and not afraid to take on the system.  He can be the man the conservative Republicans have never trusted or liked.  It's too bad that McCain was not allowed by the Republican establishment to run for President.

I only hope that the 2012 campaign is better.  Contrary to popular belief, the politicians do not determine the kind of campaign that is acceptable for that season.  It is the American public who decides.  The people of this country have always had the power to dictate and change the environment of this country.  They just don't do it.

The Marilyn Monroe Sex Tape Should Be Destroyed

A New York businessman spent $1.5 million to purchase a tape of the late Marilyn Monroe performing oral sex on an unidentified man.  The anonymous businessman allegedly purchased the film to keep it away from public view and protect Monroe's privacy.  The FBI has the only other copy of this film. It was rumored that J. Edgar Hoover, the former FBI, believed that the unidentified man in the film was President John F. Kennedy.

If the businessman really purchased the tape to preserve Monroe's privacy than that is a very noble act on his part.  The whole thing sounds strange to me.  Why would someone spend $1.5 million to protect the privacy of someone who has been dead for 45 years?

"The gentleman who bought it said out respect for Marilyn he's not going to make a joke of it and put it on the Internet and try to exploit her," said memorabilia collector Keya Morgan. "That's not his intention and I would never get my name involved if that were to happen."

If Morgan and the anonymous businessman are so concerned with Monroe's privacy, why is this story in the media?  Personally, I believe the two tapes should be destroyed.  However, if a guy spends a million dollars for a 15 minute tape then he should be able to do whatever he wants to do with the tape.  It always seemed like Monroe was being exploited when she was alive.  It's unfortunate people are still exploiting her name for publicity reasons today.

Invasion Is Not Needed To Learn War Is Bad

"The United States Needs To Be Invaded - Not Just Invaded - Occupied" is the title of the story posted on the Daily Kos site.  I hope the title is intended to shock people and get them to think about the negative effects of war.  I liked the article and understood its message; I just hated the title.  I don't agree with everything he wrote, but I also agree with the author and others who believe that there should have never been a war in Iraq.  It's amazing to me how no one in the Bush administration has had to pay a price except for lying about the rationale for invading Iraq.

Another Memoir - Another Lie

What is going on in the publishing world?  Margaret B. Jones, author of "Love and Consequences", has admitted  that the contents of the published book is not true.  According to the New York Times article, Jones' book was based on her life story of being a "half-white, half-Native American girl growing up in South-Central Los Angeles as a foster child among gang-bangers, running drugs for the Bloods".

Jones' description of her background should have been enough for a publishing company to carefully examine her background and story before publishing the book.  It would be interesting to see what policies publishing companies have in regards to examining the authenticity of memoirs they decide to publish. This is the second time in two weeks that the author of a critically acclaimed memoir has had to admit that the contents of their book was based on a lie.

The funny part of this story is that it was Jones' older sister who alerted the publisher that the book was based on a lie.
